WINTER SOLITUDE

There’s nothing quite like winter for the gardener to get his or her creative juices flowing.  I know that laying down for a ‘powernap’ enables my otherwise active brain to be still long enough to seize on the fragment of an idea, embellish it and flush out something of substance. Such is the nature of winter solitude. All those many thoughts that germinated throughout the previous busy gardening season and were relegated to my subconscious finally surface and begin to shape my approach for this year’s planting strategy. There are always new products, new trends, fresh inspiration and certainly old faithful methods. Looking through seed catalogues or online ideas which are limitless can be overwhelming. Focusing on a theme whether it’s a colour, a specific pattern or maybe even a particular sentimental object that you want to include in your garden design helps to organize your thoughts.
