Good to know: A Musa is not a tree. It is a banana plant and the way it grows makes it of the herb family. Instead of a woody trunk, it's trunk is a culmination of layered leaf stalks. For our purposes in Canada the Musa plant gives the garden a tropical ambience and can be brought indoors to winter. We carry 4 varieties as follows:

  • Dwarf Cavendish-can grow to 6' over several seasons
  • Tropicana-can grow to 3', very dwarf Cavendish
  • Basjoo-may be cold hardy to zone 5 if roots are heavily mulched in winter
  • Maurelii-red leaf ribs and red leaf tips. Can grow 3-5'

Light requirements: full sun

Uses: specimen, houseplant, mixed containers
